Message from the Chair
OCEA Chair’s Welcome 2018-2019
Welcome Experiential Learning leaders and educators! On behalf of the OCEA leadership team, I want to officially acknowledge the dedication of all educators and partners that work with Experiential Learning and Cooperative Education students across Ontario. We have an exciting year ahead with new initiatives, resources and learning opportunities.
After a much anticipated wait, the new Cooperative Education document has been released. We are working with the ministries of Education and Labour to develop resources that will assist you and your departments in implementing the document and creating worthwhile lesson plans for your students.
The new document may raise many questions and bring some changes to our teaching duties and expectations. With this in mind, OCEA will ensure our members are prepared for the future of Experiential Learning and Cooperative Education. I encourage you to become a member so that you can stay abreast of the latest developments, receive monthly e-news bulletins, network with colleagues, and access the Members’ Only resource section. New this year, is the addition of yearly board subscriptions. We will still be offering individual memberships. Find out more information about this possibility under the membership tab on the website.
Another perk of membership is the discount you receive when you attend our two annual learning events. Our fall symposium will once again be held at the Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood, October 28th and 29th. The spring conference is being hosted in Niagara Falls on April 28-30th. We already have new exhibitors and workshop presenters on board!
Our refreshed website www.ocea.on.ca was launched last year and we continue to add new and relevant content. We are excited with its updated look which allows us to post files, videos, documents and resources in a much more timely manner. It is also accessible with your Smartphone!
OCEA prides itself as being a grass roots organization that values the opinions and feedback of its members. The Executive and Board are easy to reach through email or phone, and we have six regional representatives to communicate with the regions assigned to them. We encourage this communication to be a two-way street. Please do not hesitate to contact any of our Board Members, Provincial Reps or Carol, our Administrative Assistant. All contact information can be located on our website.
OCEA is a leader in Experiential Learning and Cooperative Education in Ontario. We liaise with many educational and corporate partners and ministries to ensure we are up to date in our knowledge that we pass along to our members. We have a voice at many levels and tables so that experiential learning educators’ best interests are at the heart of discussions for the future of education.
As a new school year begins, I look forward to meeting many of our members throughout the year. Please introduce yourself at our events and reach out if you have any questions, need assistance, or have a great idea!
