Message from the Chair 2019-2020
On behalf of the OCEA Leadership Team, I want to send a warm welcome to all those who are providing opportunities for Ontario students through Cooperative Education and all other forms of Experiential Learning. I look forward to working with you, as we continue to develop resources and support each other to implement this new curriculum.
Congratulations on completing one year of working with the new Cooperative Education document! OCEA has begun the task of updating our documents to reflect the new curriculum and DCO3O course. Just recently, the “Ethical Guidelines” was refreshed, and OCEA will be making an electronic version of that document available very soon. We continue to consult with the ministries of Education and Labour to create an updated “Legal Issues”, with the intent of releasing it in 2020. My hope is that these new resources will continue to support you as you create lesson plans for your students.
OCEA’s stated mission is “Facilitating and Supporting the Exchange of Ideas Among Experiential Learning Professionals”, to ensure our members are prepared for the future of Experiential Learning and Cooperative Education. I encourage you to become a member so that you can be a part of that exchange. Membership allows you to stay informed regarding the latest developments, receive e-news bulletins, network with colleagues, and access the Members’ Only resource section on our website. To make membership even easier for our colleagues, OCEA has implemented the option of yearly board subscriptions. Should your board not purchase a subscription, you can still become involved through an individual membership. Please contact your board lead to see if a School Board Subscription has been purchased, and consult the Membership information at https://ocea.on.ca.
Our 2019 OCEA Fall Symposium will be held once again at the beautiful Blue Mountain Resort in (Blue Mountains) Collingwood, Ontario on October 27th and 28th. Our 2020 Spring Conference dates will be released soon. We are proud to offer these fantastic opportunities to meet face-to-face with colleagues and take home resources and ideas shared through our variety of workshops.
OCEA values the opinions and feedback of its members. The OCEA Board of Directors, and our six Provincial Representatives are always available should you have information you would like to share, or questions you need answered. Please do not hesitate to contact any of our Directors, Provincial Reps or Carol, our Executive Administrative Assistant. All contact information can be located on our new and improved website. Please introduce yourself at our events and reach out if you have any questions, need assistance, or have a great idea!
