Chair’s Message

2021-2022

On behalf of the OCEA Leadership Team (OCEA Board of Directors and Provincial Representatives), we would like to welcome everyone back to a new school year. This year, as we move back toward pre-pandemic routines, we find ourselves supporting students both in person and online. The OCEA Leadership Team will continue to provide resources and other supports as Cooperative Education and all other forms of Experiential Learning educators adjust to these new demands.

Last year, to ensure our members had the opportunity for professional development, we offered our very first VIRTUAL OCEA SPRING CONFERENCE (2021). It was a huge success, with over 325 delegates learning from 60 presenters in 34 workshops.

Our 2021 VIRTUAL OCEA FALL SYMPOSIUM, which occurred on October 1, 2021, was an equally popular event. The OCEA Leadership Team is currently working hard to plan our next Virtual event in the Spring of 2022. We sincerely hope that by the Fall of 2022 we can return to in-person events again. Continue to check the OCEA WEBSITE for updates as our plans unfold.

OCEA’s Mission Statement is “Facilitating and Supporting the Exchange of Ideas Among Experiential Learning Professionals'', to ensure that our members are prepared for the future of Cooperative Education and all other forms of Experiential Learning. I encourage you to become a member (if you have not already done so) to be a part of that exchange. Membership allows you to stay informed regarding the latest developments, to receive OCEA e-NEWS, e-bulletins, to network with colleagues, and to access the MEMBERS’ ONLY RESOURCE SECTION of our website.

To make renewing or applying for an OCEA membership as easy as possible, OCEA continues to offer the yearly School Board Subscription (SBS) option. Please contact your School Board Lead to see if a School Board Subscription (SBS) has been purchased for this school year. Should your school board decide not to purchase a School Board Subscription (SBS), you can still become involved with OCEA with an individual OCEA membership. Please consult the MEMBERSHIP section on our website for full details.

In closing, please know that OCEA welcomes and values the opinions and feedback of its members. Please do not hesitate to contact any one of the OCEA Board of Directors, OCEA Provincial Representatives or our OCEA Executive Administrative Assistant, Carol Madsen (ocea@rogers.com), if you have any information you would like to share or if you have any questions you may want answered.

Here’s to a great school year!
