NATIONAL DEFENSE - ARMY RESERVE - 32 Canadian Brigade

Successful applicants to the Army Reserve Co-op program will become serving members of the Canadian Forces. This is a serious commitment and should not be taken lightly. Students will receive military training and pay during the program. Students will be accredited with their Basic Military Qualifications. There is an expectation that students who participate in the Co-op program will continue to serve on a part-time basis with the Reserves after the program ends.

ONTARIO YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (OYAP)

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) offers students an opportunity to explore a skilled trade and begin an apprenticeship while completing credits towards an OSSD. OYAP students can begin at the age of 15 with a minimum of 14 credits – but some workplaces will require a student to be 16.

SKILLED TRADES ONTARIO

Skilled Trades Ontario is an agency of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development responsible for apprenticeship and skilled trades certification in Ontario. It was established through the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021. We are committed to making it easier for skilled trades professionals to access services, promoting careers in the skilled trades and addressing the labour shortage. We want to make Ontario the place where skilled trades professionals thrive. Skilled Trades Ontario is responsible for trades certification in Ontario, including: • establishing apprenticeship programs, including training standards, curriculum standards and certification exams • assessing experience and qualifications of individuals who have not completed an apprenticeship program in Ontario • issuing Certificates of Qualification in all trades with certifying exams • renewing Certificates of Qualification in compulsory trades • maintaining a Public Register of people authorized to work in compulsory trades • researching apprenticeships and the trades

TRADES REPORT, THE

The Trades Report is a digital resource, available in both English and French, designed to assist Ontario schools in promoting awareness of careers in the skilled trades/apprenticeship pathway. The newsletter features opportunities for underserved groups such as Black youth, Indigenous youth, and others. Our materials align with the Ministry's priorities of increasing understanding of the skilled trades and the benefits of a career in skilled trades. Currently, our clients include over forty Ontario school boards.
